The First of Not-That-Many...

As promised, Honda has started delivering Honda Fit EVs to paying customers, with the first one going to Matt and Becky Walton, a couple living in Southern California. The couple was the very first registrant to sign up to lease the Fit EV on Honda's website, and they plan to use their vehicle as a daily commuter car.

The Fit EV will be available for lease-only in key markets starting in California and Oregon, after which availability will expand to East Coast markets in early 2013. The Fit EV's lease price of $389 per month over a three-year term computes to a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $36,625.

While the Fit EV gets a great 118 MPGe, there's a big downside: Honda only plans to produce about 1,100 Fit EVs over the next three years. I really hope that they'll reconsider, or that they are working on another EV with plans to mass-produce it.

Too bad that Honda doesn't plan to mass-produce the Fit EV, because it seems like a great little electric car...
