The 2013 Fiat 500e electric car, which was rated at an impressive 116 MPG-equivalent by the EPA and can be leased for $199/month, has apparently been declared 'sold out' by Fiat in California, the only state where it is available for sale so far. So no more! At least, until next year's production rolls in.
“We’re pretty much sold out for the year,” Jason Stoicevich, president and CEO of the Fiat brand in North America, told Wards Auto.
While we don't know exactly how many Fiat 500e EVs that represents, it's probably not a big number...
I hope they get the memo
Even if the Fiat 500e was originally made to comply with California regulations and such, this selling out after a few months should be a clear message to the company that there's demand for electric cars. If the company makes a full effort to make a mass-produced EV rather than just a small number, it would be positioning itself quite well for the future, which will no doubt be electric in some form or other.
