Randall's Island Connector

Too many cities all by force most of their residents to drive cars to get anywhere. Those that don't still don't always make it as safe and convenient as possible to walk or bike to get somewhere, and unfortunately, this isn't a game of Sim City and we can't just reboot a city and start from scratch to create a better one. Walkable and bikable cities have to be created from existing ones. This happens one path, one road, one lane at a time... But it has to be done.

The new Randall's Island Connector, which connects the South Bronx to Manhattan and gives residents access to "athletic fields, picnic tables, miles of beautiful greenways", is a good example of what can be done to improve an area.

Our friend Clarence (follow him on Twitter!) from Streetfilms was on the scene when the green ribbon - nice touch! - was cut. Here's the great short film that he made about it:

This is how it should be done. Other cities need to copy this!
