Alane received her Ph.D. after working as a graduate research scholar in materials science at Northwestern University's Huang Lab. Her research focuses on the potential applications of graphene, a sheetlike carbon material. 

Previously, Alane was a Fulbright Scholar at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology's Kappes Lab, where she researched carbon nanotubes. She also worked as an undergraduate research assistant at the Bowen Lab at Johns Hopkins University, where she helped to construct and design a high vacuum apparatus for studying groups of similar chemicals in the gas phase.


Alane received her Ph.D. in materials science and engineering at Northwestern University. Previously, she was a Fulbright Research Scholar at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. She holds a B.A. in chemistry and a B.A. in cognitive science from Johns Hopkins University.
