China-bashing is a popular pastime; look at the reaction around the world to the fake story about the sunrise that was supposedly put up on the big screen in Tienanmen Square. There are problems to be covered another day, but there are also such amazing achievements. Here is a roundup of some of our favorite Happy New Year good news stories out of China, from tiny houses to vast enterprises:

In China, Tricycle House Is Off-grid Home and Garden for the Land-Starved

Through this design, single family homes can be affordable and sustainable, parking lots are not wasted at night, and traffic jams are acceptable. The Tricycle House is man-powered allowing off-the-grid living. More in TreeHugger

Micro House is designed to be stacked and packed

TreeHugger has shown many small living units and tiny houses, but most are stand-alone. This one is so clever because of the tetris-like way they can fit together to build larger structures. More in TreeHugger

A Contemporary Take On A Traditional Chinese Courtyard House

The British architectural magazine, the Architectural Review, has given its top prize for house design to John Lin's "contemporary take on a vernacular village house." Lin and his students measured existing houses in the Shaanxi Province, traditionally courtyard designs surrounded by walls. More in TreeHugger
