Pinecone shaped sustainable wood lamps soften glare of energy-saving bulbs

Aiming to soften the harsh light of energy- and money-saving lightbulbs, Lübeck-based German company Schneid designed this lovely pendant lamp that was inspired by pinecones. Nicknamed Zappy, the lightweight lamp is made by hand with untreated, FSC-certified ash or oak wood panels that have been sourced from northern Germany.

The organic form brings in a bit of nature into the home, and the cold, harsh light of energy-saving lightbulbs is softly filtered through this design to produce a gentler, even light.

The ash wood Zappy creates a brighter tone of light, while the oak veneer lamp is darker but more sophisticated looking.

Recently featured in ELLE Decor and second-place winner of Europe’s 2014 Green Product Award contest, the Zappy doesn't come cheap at USD $482 for the smaller version and $689 for the large, but it does shine as a beautifully designed light accessory. More over at Milkster and Schneid.
