MusicLite Combines Audio System and LED Bulb in One Fixture. The Question is: Why?

When I first head about the MusicLite from Osram Sylvania, combining an LED light fixture with a wireless sound system, I was reminded of Saturday Night Live with Chevy Chase selling Shimmer! "It's a floor wax! No, it's dessert topping!" But in fact it does make some sense.

Osram Sylvania tells us:

The technology combines an efficient LED light, loudspeaker and wireless audio receiver in a component that is compatible with any audio source. It is as easy as screwing in a light bulb into a recessed can and sound is transmittable over Bluetooth technology with a range of up to 90 feet via any audio source (i.e. an iPod, iPhone, USB, etc.) MusicLites can be screwed & unscrewed as desired making it a great temporary or permanent solution for consumers and small businesses looking for a custom sound/lighting system without the hassle of installation.

So not withstanding first reactions, it has a few things going for it. We often complain about devices that serve only a single function, yet Osram Sylvania and Artison now have our light fixtures serving two functions. Lots of people want sound systems in their houses but they are expensive to install; here you just screw it in like a lightbulb. People who rent now have an option that isn't permanent.

Maybe it's not such a crazy idea.
