Smart Egg Carton Redesign is Made From Single Piece of Cardboard

Humble and rough-textured, egg cartons are one of those things in life that you usually don't question. Not so for Hungarian designer and graduate student Otília Andrea Erdélyi, who redesigned the egg container into something even more minimal, materially efficient but still visually appealing.

Using a single piece of recyclable cardboard, Erdélyi's Egg Box ingeniously folds back in a way that both displays and protects the eggs. She writes that
My goal was to design an innovative package using a small amount of material. [..] The eggs [are] placed into ellipse-shaped cuts. The consumer can get the eggs by the turning of [the] topside.

Designed to be stackable, one can imagine small and simple ideas like Erdélyi's Egg Box making a huge difference if employed on a much larger scale -- not to mention the effort saved in being able to inspect your eggs at one glance. More over at Otília Andrea Erdélyi's website.
