Nau Is A Style Winner in Eco Clothing. It's Official

Nau, one of our favourite eco clothiers was recently presented with the ISPO (international sports expo) BrandNew Award in the Style category. "Nau combines urban style and high end outdoor functionality on a unprecedented level," was the word from judges. So big congrats to the team at Nau for scoring the gong. Tho' possibly of more interest to our readers, ISPO also made mention of what green fabrics Nau expects to debut in their Fall 2011 collection. According to ISPO BrandNew we can expect Nau to launch a recycled polyester insulation for Fall 2011 that's said to mimic down and provide warmth with less bulk. (Many materials have claimed this in the past, but few have delivered, this will be intriguing.) Apparently the insulation will also be endowed with Cocona activated carbon sourced from the industrial waste of coconut shells. Such technology has been around for some time, mostly used in next-to-skin fabrics, likeactive apparel and sleeping bags, where it is said to transport moisture, whilst not retaining body odour.

Additionally, Nau are noted as working on an organic cotton canvas that has been 'waxed' treated with a water-based polyurethane (PU) "water repellant treatment that never needs refreshing."

Winning a BrandNew award might seem a bit odd for Nau, a company that first sold product back in 2007, but the ISPO award is open to companies that are launching internationally through the trade show. This years winners were selected from 282 entries spread across 28 countries. We asked Caitlin Murphy, of Sales and Marketing at Nau if this meant the company was spreading it wings outside the USA. Her response,

"We're very excited and are hoping it will help us lay out a plan for our international business. Right now you can find us in Germany, Switzerland, Japan and Canada but that's about it. Hopefully we'll be spreading the Nau love far and wide after ISPO."

Here's what the ISPO BrandNew jury had to say,

"NAU designs fashion for nature enthusiasts. Its outdoor apparel combines hi-tech function and urban design with a high level of sustainable production. The company critically examines everything from the selection of raw materials and durability of the products, to the amount of energy used in production and waste management. The consistent implementation of an eco-friendly brand concept convinced the BrandNew jury to present the award."
