Ties Aren't Just For Boys: Lilian Asterfield Upcycled Ties Are Wearable Art
Here's a fresh take on the perennial menswear-inspired trend: Designer Nicole Deponte scavenges for vintage silk and poly neckties, then stitches them into one-of-a-kind ascots, necklaces, scarves, and wristlets bursting with an edgy, avant garde vim that makes the originals barely recognizable. Almost sculptural in nature—unsurprising, considering Deponte has a BFA in Sculpture from the Massachusetts College Of Art—her Lilian Asterfield collection is styled with layer upon layer of exquisite details: hand-braided T-shirt yarn, painted vintage lace, clusters of antique buttons, beaded wire, and feathers.
