Spring/Summer Fashion 2009: Emily Katz

Emily Katz is one of those ridiculously talented people you have to resist the urge to smack. Besides heading up her eponymous fashion line, Katz also paints, embroiders, plays a '60s autoharp, and sings in the band Love Menu.

If talent were a commodity, the Portland, Oregon-by-way-of-Tuscon designer could be accused of hoarding. Katz's Spring/Summer 2009 collection, her fourth, is another ace in the hole, from the fluid draping of the two-toned Odette wrap dress in organic French terry, to the silk-lined, men's-inspired Tulip skirt in hemp/organic cotton.

The two-sided, ribbon-tie Wish top, in an obsidian hemp/tencel blend, is a summer must-have that can be thrown over dark-wash stovepipe jeans or metallic leggings. Another piece that is bound to garner double-takes: The strappy hemp/organic cotton Ode to Summer dress with a trio of buttons running down the empire bustline. Rock this frock with your favorite Mohops and hit the boardwalk.
