Brimming with retro verve and looking like they were plucked straight from a '60s time capsule—or from the set of Mad Men—Doucette Duvall's Spring/Summer 2009 coats and dresses are practically the real McCoy: The collection, sewn in New York City's historic garment district, is culled together from vintage fabrics and trims.
Inspired by the "wit and elegance of their mothers, grandmothers, and aunties," erstwhile neighbors Stephanie Doucette and Annebet Duvall have mustered thigh-skimming plaid shirtdresses in kelly green, snappy black trenches with gold buttons and buckles, cocktail dresses swathed in a preponderance of navy blue ruffles (Tippi Hedren in The Birds, anyone?), and shimmery aqua shifts plundered directly from Jackie O's closet.
The coral frock with the flutter sleeves and ruffled hem would be perfect for serving up Jello-filled watermelon slices and Tang. Or head out to Coney Island for hot dogs and postcard-picturesque strolls on the boardwalk in the yellow gingham short jumpsuit. Feeling gamine? Paired with ballet flats, the blue-and-white A-line dress with the banded waist and cap sleeves is pure Audrey Hepburn.
Yeah baby, yeah.
