People Tree Gives Laura Ashley Prints a Modern Twist for Spring 2011 (Photos)

We've just finished our on site coverage of the best green fashion to emerge from New York Fashion Week for Fall 2011 -- all the excitement and yet we have to wait all summer for it to hit stores -- here's a little something you can get your hands on sooner. Enter People Tree's collaboration with Laura Ashley.

The UK-based fair trade label has given Laura Ashley prints from the 1970s a modern twist with updated colors and silhouettes in organic cotton fabrics. The collection is wearable, weather appropriate, and jam-packed with florals.

Highlights from the collection include: The high-waisted floral shorts, which are feminine, functional and transitional as they can be dressed up with a wedge heels or down with pair of flats. The floral jumpsuit is surprisingly wearable with its cropped pant -- as compared to this flannel number I spotted at New York Fashion Week -- when styled with a leather belt.

The dresses are adorable and with their two different silhouettes and hem lengths I could see them worn by a range of ages. The billowing floral short-sleeved shirt, on the other hand, is dowdy and shapeless -- and can hardly be called flattering.

Come February 28, 2011 the collection will be available at People Tree.

Do you still have a Laura Ashley dress from years ago? How does this collection compare? We want to know. Tell us in the comment section, below.
