Blame it on hormones, Rio, or the rain, but for most baby-bump wearers, your pregnancy paranoia level is so completely off the charts that it's making a break for the border with a backseat stuffed with body bags and a trunk full of untraceable license plates.

Danger, it seems, lurks in every corner, waiting to launch itself on your unborn child. Will consuming soft-serve ice cream ruin your offspring's chances of winning the Nobel Peace Prize? Will unpasteurized cheese turn him into a Kenny G fan? As you inch your way into Goodyear blimpdom, you have enough on your mind without the need to obsess over whether the chemicals in your daily toilette will result in the drooling Fratelli brother from The Goonies.Nine Naturals is one haircare (and soon to be bodycare) company that wants to allay your fears, with a shampoo and conditioner that dispenses with parabens, phthalates, silicones, sulfates, and DEA while addressing your prenatal needs.

Infused with no more than nine ingredients, Nine Naturals' certified-vegan Natural Moisturizing Shampoo ($18) and Natural Moisturizing Conditioner include invigorating peppermint oil to fight fatigue, wheat proteins and vitamin B5 for lustrous tresses, and organic aloe for hydration.

Because my own bun in the oven is almost 8 months old, I had the company send the sudsy duo to my sister-in-law, who is currently ripe with child. Her verdict?

I love the peppermint smell. My hair isn't as rough or stick- or straw-like as it used to be. I really like it. It's also a great wake-up scent. And it has a nice consistency. The shampoo isn't too runny and the conditioner isn't too thick.

Also, it doesn't make me gag, which random things that never made me gag before do now. Fun times.

My only grouse is why can't all our skin- and body-care products take the same precautionary approach? But I suppose that's a whole 'nother round of labor pains.
