London Fashion Week: Christopher Raeburn Reaches New Fashion Heights With AW10 NEWGEN Show (Photos)
We're delighted to see the brilliant British designer Christopher Raeburn on the fast track to fashion success this season at London Fashion Week. He not only reached new heights with a stunning aerial installation of parachutes and jackets for the Estethica show (picture below), but he was also selected to be part of the prestigious NEWGEN exhibition, a Topshop sponsored showcase of the hottest young fashion talents on the block. With the NEWGEN sponsorship Christopher's fantastic AW10 collection will also get to see the bright lights of Paris, Tokyo and New York. Raeburn the spotlight is yours!
Christopher Raeburn Installation
We loved this fantastically colourful and dramatic installation by Christopher Raeburn at the entrance to the Estethica show. The reclaimed parachutes that Raeburn uses as his trademark fabric were suspended from the vaults of London's Somerset House alongside garments from the AW10 collection entitled 'Protect'.
Flyweight Range and Limited Editions
The AW10 Protect collection sees Raeburn consolidating and expanding his now instantly recognisable style, with parachute fabric windcheaters in the 'flyweight range' contrasting against his limited editions of 'heavy duty coats, bombers and smocks'. Added to this is a new collaboration with his brother Graeme Raeburn of a capsule accessories collection, including hats, caps and satchel bags.
Reclaimed Military Fabrics
As usual Christopher makes brilliant use of reclaimed textiles from parachutes, British battle dress kackets, camouflage fabric, Swedish snow cotton and battered Italian leather military jackets. He has also continued the dot pattern on the windcheater designs, but this season uses a screen printing technique in the place of the laser cutting for the S/S10 Digital Rainbow collection.
While the whole of the Protect AW10 collection is a triumph we all have our favourites, and I must admit I fell in love with the Swedish snow cotton reversible coat with semaphore print lining (below). It's sleek and minimal, but the padded fabric makes it incredibly warm, and appropriately enough really makes you feel protected. Obviously the winning points are scored with the reversible factor, giving you two coats in one - versatile style!
Christopher Raeburn Hound Dogs
In case you missed our 8 fabulous accessories from Estethica AW10 here's another peak at the very cute Raeburn military hounds made from the fabrics offcuts of his collection and stuffed with parachute fabric. You've got to admire the stylish 'waste not want not' attitude of Christopher Raeburn.
