Eve Organics Eye Shadows Shimmer, Glow

As brain-melting temps begin to dip, sweater boxes start getting ransacked, and wardrobe whites get aired out for one last hurrah, the eyes have it for bolder, more provocative peepers, moving away from summery teals and ultramarines to ripened ochres, wines, and aubergines.
Burgeoning beauty company Eve Organics, which launched in late 2007, has added a line of shimmery eye shadows to its mineral makeup collection, with 10 luminescent shades at less than $8 a pot. Free from parabens, synthetic preservatives, and irritants such as bismuth oxychloride, the sparkly shadows come in autumnal hues like champagne, copper, cabernet, and my favorite by an eyelash's breadth, a roasted eggplant tint dubbed "mink."
A couple of points of interest for the fastidious: Like most mineral cosmetics, the shadows contain micronized titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, and Eve Organics uses particles with an average diameter of 1 micron. (Nanoparticles, which are suspected of crossing the blood-brain barrier, are commonly defined as measuring less than 0.1 micron.) Still, if you'd rather err on the side of paranoia, consider sticking to pressed powders or creams that rein in particles from becoming airborne.
The shadows also contain trace amounts of silica, of which the Environmental Working Group is not the greatest of fans, although it does note that for cosmetics use, it presents little, if any, risk.
So play up those baby blues, browns, grays, and greens all you want. Bare skin has had its day in the sun, now it's their turn to shine.
