A Picture is Worth...Redefining Luxury in a Crisis

If context is everything, what happens when one of the world's most recognizable brands is lifted from its high-society milieu and plunged into a completely alien environment? French artist Sébastien Bouchard embellished an African calabash bowl with hand-painted Louis Vuitton monograms for an group exhibition in Dakar, Senegal.

"C'est la crise," or "crisis time," juxtaposes an icon of luxury and unattainability (for most of us poor slobs anyway) with an inexpensive daily necessity.
