Terrifying and Terrific Towers
Jacob recently posted about how old fire lookout towers are being repurposed into second homes and tourist attractions. Over at BLDGBLOG, Geoff Manaugh shows some lovely photographs of old fire towers, and suggests that they "deserve their architectural rediscovery."
In fact, the art of observation tower design is very much alive, and often serve the function of showing off areas of special environmental interest.
