Cheap, Energy-Efficient Robots that Build Houses
Digital Vernacular
(FAB)BOTS need to be easily transported and constructed on site. They must also tap locally available materials in order to build site-specific structures and spacial formations. The carbon footprint is reduced by limited transportation of machinery and materials, and local communities can be involved in both the design and the building of their new habitats.
Digital Vernacular, shown, is designed to help build housing on-site, based on a construction method that uses a numerically-controlled device. It turns any local material that comes as pulp or purée into housing environments by layering the material in order to create floors, walls and enclosures
