After paving over a natural stream to add a road that then added to the traffic congestion in Seoul, city planners finally realized they made a mistake, and went back to restore the place as a public park.

The $900 million Cheonggyecheon project broke ground in 2003 and opened to the public in 2005. Now it's a popular destination for residents and tourists.
