Using barley waste from beer production, Valentina Preece created a fiber that has thermal insulating properties. Going back to the materials roots, she mixed her new fiber with neoprene to create Oko, a line of products to keep beer cold.

It's fair to note a product that keeps beer cold is far from a necessity and she could have used a greener alternative to neoprene. Still, the material makes an interesting use of barley waste that could be explored further.
