10 Awe-Inspiring, Sustainable Designs for a Living World at Cooper Hewitt
In Costa Rica, industrial designer Yves Béhar met with an organic chocolate women's association and learned the local custom of preparing hot chocolate from handmade cocoa patties. To facilitate the process, Béhar created an implement that scraped pieces of cocoa off the patty and collected the shavings inside a hollow tube.
Anyone looking to make hot chocolate would simply flip the tool into a cup to deposit the cocoa, add hot milk or water, stir, and sup. Béhar also designed a jute bag to hold the patty, complete with instructions for using the tool and preparing the drink.
