Illegal hunting is a major threat to the Cuban crocodile, which is killed for its meat "chiefly for restaurants serving the tourist industry," the WCS writes. The animals, which can grow up to 11 feet in length, are also increasingly becoming hybridized with American crocodiles, found throughout Central America and northern South America. The Cuban crocodile population is currently restricted to just two small areas in Cuba.
