The Year of the Tiger - Beautiful Animals on the Brink

Polar bears tend to make the news as a species in grave danger of disappearing from the planet, primarily because they represent the impacts of climate change. But they aren't the only magnificent and iconic species we're losing.

Thanks to illegal poaching, trading on the black market, urban sprawl, and pollution, we're wiping out tigers from practically every one of their habitats. Around 100,000 tigers were found in the wild at the beginning of last century; now there are fewer than 3,200.

But it's the Year of the Tiger, and high time we rally to support them: These amazing photos and videos -- from humorous to awe inspiring to shocking -- are a tribute to these great cats.
