Smart Voyager is a program founded by Conservación y Desarrollo, primarily as a way of certifying Galapagos tour companies. It later expanded to certify land based operations, to ensure that
"tourism has a positive impact on workers, communities, poverty and the environment. Certification is a powerful tool for the consumer who wants to know that their dollars are not contributing to the exploitation of the environment and/or labor."
The Rainforest Alliance does not certify lodges and tourist activities (like it does with agricultural products) but assists them in obtaining certifications like Smart Voyager.
