"The snow leopard is the fourth largest wild cat, after tigers, lions and jaguars, and is found in 12 countries throughout Asia," according to Panthera.

The snow leopard has also earned a spot on the IUCN's "Endangered" list, since only an estimated 3,500-7,000 remain in the wild: That's why conservationists were glad to see Mongolia strike down in March a proposal that would have allowed for the hunting of rare snow leopards.

Panthera collected almost 3,500 signatures in about 48 hours and submitted a petition -- which was granted -- to rescind the hunt.
