There are few people who can visit Midway Atoll and not be taken by the fairy terns. These small, curious, and beautiful birds can hover in the air, watching you with as much interest as you watching them -- kind of like what fairies would do. When caught in the sunlight, they truly look like something angelic and fanciful. Fairy tern is truly a fitting name for the species.

The photographer writes, "These white fairy terns are one of the most friendly and magical birds on the island and represent the natural beauty that is being choked by the plastic pollution washing up on Midway."
