Elephant seals can dive as deep as 1550 meters underwater, with the deepest dive having been recorded at 2,388 meters. This puts them in the lead for the deepest diving pinniped. Though they can go that deep, most of the time they stay between 300-600 meters while looking for squid, octopus, large fish and other things to eat. But even that is pretty deep for seals. For comparison, harbor seals dive only as deep as 200 meters, and the deepest dives for walruses is a mere is 80 meters.
