Hot Scenes from Raging Wildfires
In 2007, fires in Southern California alone cost an estimated $45 million per day, displaced 1,000,000 people, and destroyed thousands of homes. The fires sparked the largest evacuation in California history and among the largest peacetime movements of Americans since the Civil War.
Though the fires were started by a variety of causes, a persistent drought and high winds helped them spread and grow.
