Gulf Oil Spill: The Black and Oily Demise of Wildlife
On April 22, the fires were extinguished—and the platform sank into the gulf. By April 29, the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico was closing in on the Pass a Loutre area of Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. Oil from a massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico was starting to ooze ashore by April 23, threatening migrating birds, nesting pelicans, river otters and mink along Louisiana's fragile islands and barrier marshes.
