"When the waves are a bit smaller, the turtles will come close to shore to feed on the sea weed," says Little. "This turtle is dwarfed by a large wave breaking over its back and is probably pushing his luck a bit too far."
Some turtles that are injured in the wild are lucky enough to end up at rehabilitation centers, where scientists help them recover before releasing them back. Actress Lauren Norman went inside a sea turtle hospital for a behind-the-scenes look at the recovery process.
