All Washed Up: The Destructive Power of Floods
The impact of a flood is typically extensive. There is, of course, the physical damage water causes to houses, buildings, bridges, roads, and other structures. There is also the danger it poses to people, who can easily drown in the turbulent water.
There are other implications, too. Flood water collects dirt and debris, which can contaminate drinking water supplies. Flood conditions also breed disease and illness, destroy crops, and lead to widespread economic devastation.
