10 Disgusting, Diseased Trees We Don't Want to Hug (Slideshow)
Sudden Oak Death is marked by bleeding ooze from cankers on a tree. Nice, huh? This disease was first spotted in 1995, and has been confirmed in California and Oregon, says the U.S. Forest Service. A fungus-like organism called phytophthora ramorum is responsible. Not to be confused with the Stormtroopers of Death, an offshoot of Anthrax, a metal band named after yet another disease.
