With roots that go back several hundred years to the Castile region of Spain, Castile soap is soap made of olive oil -- 100 percent, say the purists.
But as noted on About.com, which has four recipes for olive oil soap with varying ratios of olive oil, 100 percent olive oil might not get the kind of lather one usually expects. These recipes all require you to handle lye.
Avoid the lye complications with this recipe on eHow, calling for an olive oil, coconut, or glycerin soap base.
