World Environment Day is an event hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme to bring attention to the pressing issues of environmental sustainability. This year’s theme is small island developing nations, with problems associated with climate change and sea level rise looming large. Although small island nations tend to contribute little to greenhouse gas emissions, they are among the first to be adversely impacted by climate change.
This year’s events were officially hosted by Barbados, a small island that is working to adapt to an increasingly unstable climate and to better conserve its natural resources. The following pages explore some of these projects.
