The Laysan Teal is probably the most adorable duck I've ever seen. They're small in size, but have huge personalities. They're curious and confident, and have beautiful markings. However, they have been on the Endangered Species List since 1967.
Fish and Wildlife Services states that "by the mid-1800’s only one small population of the species remained on the small, low-lying island of Laysan in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. By 1911, various events had reduced the total species population to only 11 individuals."
How a species can come back from just 11 individuals shows the spirit of these birds.
