Osmia atriventris

We usually think of bees as yellow and black, but in reality they can be many different colors.

This bee is commonly called the Maine blueberry bee, and as the name suggests is native to eastern North America. Its territory spans as far north as Nova Scotia and Alberta and as far south as Georgia. This specimen was found in Beltsville, Maryland where the USGS Bee Lab is located.
