Researchers from the World Wildlife Foundation announced the discovery of more than 200 new species in the Greater Mekong region, including five new carnivorous pitcher plants like this one.

These colorful plants are as much beast as beauty: According to the report, they are able to "lure in and consume small rats, mice, lizards, and even birds."

Scientists point out that the region's biodiversity is facing serious threats from development and climate change -- making some of these new species endangered even as they are discovered.
