Every year the Prize has a theme. These have been water (the first), earth, growth, power and this fifth year is consumption.
Chris Jordan has been photographing environmental issues for years. He has often depicted the ravages of the oceans, and the impact of mass-consumerism in the world.
In these 2011 works the theme was growth. Called Ushirikiano: Building a Sustainable Future in Kenya’s Northern Rangelands, 2011, he travelled across Kenya to photograph local tribes that were working together in a spirit of collaboration to develop water tanks, biodiversity conservation, schools and women’s enterprise projects.
