This photo -- taken on August 28, 2011 by Tom MacKenzie, USFWS -- shows houses stranded near Pea Island NWR after Hurricane Irene blew through the area. With climate change causing both stronger storms and rising sea levels, beach front property is no longer the investment it once was. It also begs the question: should we put energy and resources into rebuilding coastline communities, without thought to future changes?
