In April 1974, a record 267 tornadoes hit the United States. April 2011 smashed that record with 875, piling up evidence that climate change is causing more extreme, and deadly, weather.

For a dose of much-needed sarcasm and sanity, we turn to Bill McKibben:

It is vitally important not to make connections...It's far smarter to repeat to yourself the comforting mantra that no single weather event can ever be directly tied to climate change. There have been tornadoes before, and floods -- that's the important thing.
