Best and Worst of 2009: The Year in Water
Water Technology
Advances in technology for water management took center stage several times in 2009, with IBM taking a strong stance in the area. The company feels that with the impending water crisis and our obvious misuse of the resource, we need to be focused on managing water in the same way we're beginning to manage electricity with the smart grid. In a tech panel early in the year, an IBM representative actively encouraged every inventor to start joining in on intelligent water technology.
From desalination technology earning funding from venture capitalists so plants can try out more energy efficient methods of generating fresh water, to the decidedly low tech but efficient programs for harvesting fog in Peru, water technology was a big deal in 2009.
