For those who believe that urine is a precious resource that shouldn't be wasted, 2009 was a good year. And Scandinavia seemed to be leading the way. Whether it was Swedish researchers discovering a way to make powdered fertilizer from pee that could one day meet one fifth of the country's fertilizer needs, or Finnish scientists proving that tomato yields improve four-fold with urine fertilizer, it was increasingly evident that pee is a much overlooked source of nutrients.
