A leopard may not change his spots, but nature's full of other land and and sea creatures that will: Whether they're hiding, hunting, or just feeling especially emotional, a select few fish, mollusks, mammals, and amphibians can all give themselves a mini-makeover.
And while undersea camouflage may not save founder
(like the leopard flounder, shown here) from fishing
lines, it does help protect them from marine predators (and surprise their own prey). This flat fish spends its days lying on the floor of the ocean, adjusting its appearance to match the rocks and sand that surround it.
