Cycling in Copenhagen. It just works. Wide, well-traveled bike lanes are everywhere in this pleasant Danish city by the bay. City planners have been working on making the Copenhagen bike-friendly since the late '60s, and it shows. 'The green wave' for example, is a series of timed traffic lights on the main boulevards giving cyclists the ability to keep moving on their morning commute. But mostly, it's an attitude. Cyclists aren't favored over pedestrians or public transport or even car and truck traffic - they are merely an integrated and respected part of the urban transport fabric. And then of course, there's Mikael Colville-Andersen (who we love!), tireless promoter of all things bike commuting, and writer/visual artist behind the CopenhagenCycleChic - every city needs a bike blog like this one! --April Streeter
