Researchers at the Unoversity of Bristol, England have developed a robot which runs on the waste water it helps treat. Weighing in at 6kg, the robot contains layers of microbial fuel cells, catchment trays and even a system for catching flies and feeding them into its artificial stomach. Dr. Julian Dennis, director of innovation and research at water utility Wessex Water, claimed that the robot raises the prospect of truly energy-self sufficient waste treatment plants in the future.
