China Will Double Solar Power Capacity By End Of 2011 to 2 Gigawatts

China's solar power push, much touted and enabled by its new feed-in tariff, is already showing impressive results. As Reuters reports, China is on track to double its solar power capacity by the end of 2011. That would bring the nation up to 1.8 GW of solar power.China is currently in seventh place in the world in terms of installed solar power. This expected expansion would likely bring China into fifth place. behind the United States and approximately equal to the invested the Czech Republic has made in solar.

At the end of the first half of 2011 Germany led the world in installed solar power, with 17 GW. In second place, Italy has 7 GW.
