Doctor Nancy Rabalais has just won one of the most prestigious prizes in existence, the MacArthur Fellowship, which is often called the 'genius grant' because while the Nobel prize rewards a specific discovery, the MacArthur is given to people for who they are and their life's work as a whole, along with a big no-strings-attached pot of money to facilitate the continuation of their work. The foundation writes: "the fellowship is not a reward for past accomplishment, but rather an investment in a person's originality, insight, and potential." The current amount of the award is $500,000.

You can listen to Dr. Rabalais describe her work in her own words:

Kudos Dr. Rabalais! You are a true green role-model!
