Taking out the Trash...From Ocean Garbage Patches (Slideshow)

We have all heard that there is a swirling mass of plastic trash in the Pacific Ocean. What many people still don't know, however, is that the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is not alone. In fact, there are five such gyres across the world's oceans.

The 5 Gyres project is working to bring researchers to these lesser-known garbage patches—and raise awareness at the same time.
