How Honeybees Clean House (Video)

It's no wonder that people fascinated by bees and schoolkids get so much out of exploring a hive.

This video is just one reason why.

At 7a.m. the morning after a heavy rainstorm, the front porch of a hive is littered with dead bees, twigs, other bugs and general debris. But the worker bees are already getting down to business, hauling off the debris and dead bodies and moving them away from the hive. By 10a.m. bees are in full flight collecting pollen for honey, and the front porch is spotless.

Here are a few screenshots showing the progress from initial debris to a squeaky clean abode.

This is a great video from the Backwards Beekeepers, the same folks who brought us this Black Sabbath-laced footage of all-out beehive war.
